Sergio Perez has revealed the significance of taking time away from Components 1, claiming that when he was compelled to step out of it, he ‘realised a number of issues’.

The Mexican driver was changed at Purple Bull for the 2025 season by rookie Liam Lawson. Having misplaced the seat on the finish of 2024, Perez was unable to safe one other full-time seat and as an alternative took a while away from the championship.

“I did not really feel on the time [but I needed the break]. When you’re within the sport, you might be carried away with the truth that you might be at all times fascinated by your subsequent 12 months, your subsequent race, your subsequent contract,” Perez informed F1.com.

“It is like you might be in automated mode. However as soon as you might be compelled to step out of it like I used to be, you realise a number of issues and also you see the game totally different.”

The 35-year-old in the end signed with Cadillac, which is ready to debut on the grid in 2026, alongside Mercedes reserve and former Sauber driver Valtteri Bottas.

“At first, the primary couple of months had been nice,” he stated. “I realised that I missed [F1] as a result of I saved following it. I saved waking up for the races.

“I might see what was taking place – I used to be speaking to buddies that had been within the paddock, and I realised that most likely I missed it greater than I believed.
