Hey, hiya! I’m right here with my weekly recap of coaching for my forty eighth marathon in Dingle, Eire…and recapping life as an American in London!
Right here’s how the week went:
Monday: 8 mile solo morning run
Tuesday: 8 miles with 4×6 minutes exhausting (1 min jog in between.)
Private coaching at Nordic Steadiness over lunch, Heartcore pilates (after work with Dustin!)
Go massive on Tuesdays, I suppose!
Wednesday: Straightforward 5 mile run with mates across the Thames, physio at Purus over lunch
Thursday: Our mates from Minnesota had been arriving round 3 pm, so I took the time off of labor and did my long term Thursday,16 miles solo.
I’ve been utilizing Precision chews on runs- they’re fairly excessive in carbs. I like them! I do a mixture of gels and chews.
When our mates arrived, we took them for a chill stroll across the Heath- Ruth needed to point out them “her” park! She and Matilda had been buddies with their canine again within the states; I’m certain she acknowledged them- and she or he was completely satisfied for brand new socks to steal to cover in her cozy cove! Naughty lady.
Then we did a refreshing swim within the blended bathing ponds- a Hampstead should do!
We adopted the ponds with a comfortable dinner on the Holly Bush in Hampstead, with a nightcap pint at “our native,” which is the Magdala pub, that has some dwell trad music.
Friday: Our mates had been touring the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, each of which Dustin and I’ve toured MANY instances by now, so we despatched them on their manner with out us. as a substitute, we went for a 7 mile run with Ruth. Finally, we joined our mates for a stroll alongside the Thames to Borough marketplace for the (TikTok well-known) chocolate strawberries and lunch. Borough market is fab, however it’s SO busy, even on a Friday!
After lunch on the market, we stroll down the Thames to Millenium bridge after which throughout to St. Paul’s Cathedral for the tour and the five hundred+ stair climb to the viewing platform on the high.
By then, we wanted a glass of chilly white wine to cool-down, so we waited in line to get into Gordon’s Wine Bar, London’s oldest wine bar (no bookings, so that you normally should queue.)
We wandered round some extra of the London websites earlier than a stunning dinner at Fallow.
We ended the night time at “The Room The place It Occurs” which is a piano bar in SoHo that solely does present tunes. My pal and I LOVED it. It actually is a lot enjoyable for somebody who loves theatre (like we do!)
Saturday: We woke as much as rain, so I made a decision to take a relaxation day. We joined our mates for a tour of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, which we hadn’t really finished earlier than. The tour is about an hour or so, after which our mates had been heading to Westminster Abbey (one other website we’ve finished one too many instances at this level!) so we went again to Hampstead and allow them to discover on their very own. (I embraced my relaxation day and took a much-needed nap!)
Finally we went again into central London for dinner at Lina Shops and (my FOURTH time) seeing Operation Mincemeat. It truly is a hilarious musical, very British.
Sunday: Our final days with our mates! They needed a low-key morning (it was trip, ha!) with time to discover espresso outlets and bookstores, so Dustin and I went for an 8-mile run with Ruth.
Noticed this stunning man in Regent’s park!
We grabbed lunch earlier than becoming a member of a historical pub tour at 2 pm. The historic pub tour is sensible! It actually is a little more of a historic strolling tour, with 4 pubs in there.
We did this same tour with my sister Erin when she visited just a few years in the past, and this time the pubs had been totally different (and a special information), beginning on the Cockpit, then Ye Old Bell Tavern, the Old Bank of England. ending at the George.
All of the pubs had been within the “Metropolis” of London (i.e. the sq. mile of London that is named the “metropolis of London,” which is totally different than Westminster, or the boroughs of Chelsea/Kensington, or Camden the place Hampstead is positioned (the place we presently dwell.) London has many boroughs, similar to Manhattan.
We ended the day with dinner at Speedboat Thai in SoHo earlier than making a detour to Abbey Street in St. John’s Wooden to make some poor however humorous makes an attempt at recreating the Beatles album.

We bid farewell to our guests on Monday morning, as they went on to discover different elements of England. Come again any time!
Abstract: Even with visitors, I managed to slot in 52 miles of operating, 1 pilates class, and 1 private coaching session. Not dangerous.
