The Week of the Cape Town Marathon

Hi there! I missed a couple of weeks of running a blog as I used to be in South Africa, however I’m again, and I’m engaged on my recap of the Cape City marathon and of our 9 days in South Africa. Cease by quickly for these detailed posts.

However first, right here’s my recap of the week of the marathon!

Monday: Birthday run! 5-ish miles within the pouring rain. What a solution to rejoice my third birthday in London, in very London-esque working situations!

Tuesday: Final mini-workout earlier than Cape City: warm-up, 6 minutes at marathon tempo, 4 min jog, 12 min at marathon tempo, 4 min jog, 6 min at marathon tempo for six.2 miles whole earlier than work. Legs felt heavy however that’s a part of the taper proper?

Wednesday: Relaxation from working.

Thursday: 5 miles simple with Ruth alongside the canal.

I labored a lot of the day earlier than we took the underground out to Heathrow for a 12-hour in a single day flight from London to Cape City. I did all of the tips to attempt to sleep properly on the flight: strong train earlier than the flight, good lengthy bathe at residence, a glass of wine on the airport, then we settled in on the flight with melatonin (which, by the best way, you’ll be able to’t purchase in London!), compression socks, and the comfiest outfit I may discover. I believe the melatonin helped, since its not one thing I usually take, and I slept moderately properly.

Friday: Morning arrival in Cape City, South Africa.

A 3-mile run to shake off the legs from the lengthy flight.

After the run/bathe/breakfast, we walked to the expo to choose up our race packets.

Saturday: One other morning run in Cape City, 3 miles.

We spent the remainder of the day exploring. We made a go to to the penguin colony on Boulder’s Seaside, drove to the Cape of Good Hope (the place we noticed ostriches and a baboon wandering round), after which drove Chapman’s Peak scenic drive (beautiful!)

Sunday: The Cape City Marathon in South Africa. Marathon #46!

Guess what? I finished- not within the 3:4X time I felt that I used to be educated for, however I snuck in beneath 4 hours and had numerous enjoyable. And I accomplished a marathon on a brand new continent!

Longevity in working mixed with a continued love of the marathon- these are my main objectives. I’ll share a full detailed recap of the marathon and my expertise; Cape City is within the working to change into a World Main, the primary one on the continent, so chances are you’ll be all for working it sooner or later (and I extremely suggest Cape City as a spot for a vacation!)

Abstract: 49 miles of working, minimal energy. Plenty of relaxation, ending with a 42km tour of Cape City!
